Today is D-Day - Judgement Expected In Treason Trial

The protracted treason trial of the civilian members of the alleged 21st March, 2006 abortive coup is expected to come to an end today. Family members, friends and loved ones are expected to throng the Banjul High Court as judgement in the treason trial involving the four alleged civilian coupists would be handed down by Justice Avril Anin-Yeboah this morning.

At the last sitting on Monday, Justice Anin-Yeboah after hearing testimonies and cross-examinations that led to the adoption of written addresses by both the prosecution and defence, set today, 9th August, as the day for the long-awaited judgement.

It would be recalled that Demba Dem, the former Niani NAM, Alieu Jobe, former Auditor-General, Tamsir Jasseh, the former Director of Immigration, and Omar Faal Keita, Marabout, together with some military officers led by former Chief of Defence Staff (C.D.S.), Colonel Ndure Cham, have been accused of attempting to topple the administration of President Yahya Jammeh.
