Magistrate B.Y. Camara Gets Tough

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Magistrate B.Y. Camara of Banjul Magistrates’ Court was last Tuesday in no mood to temper justice with mercy when he sent a notorious criminal to jail for five years without any alternative of court fine.

Ebou Mbowe celebrated for his notoriety in Banjul and the surroundings, could now be confined to the walls of the prisons following his plea of guilty to a charge of robbery.

847 Badjie, prosecuting, adduced that on 5 September of this year at Serekunda car park on Mosque Road in Banjul, Ebou robbed one Isha Fofana of $950, 9500 Leones, D850, a wallet and mobile phone.

Meanwhile according to the learned magistrate, though Ebou had admitted responsibility for stealing the items, he must face the full force of the law because he [Ebou] had no other means of making a living but to deprive people of their properties. He added that the courts are duty-bound to weed the society of the ilk of Ebou.
