Cocaine Case Reaches Corridors of Justice

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Trial proceedings have begun in a case revolving around 105kg of cocaine reportedly intercepted at the Banjul International Airport in July of this year.

Abdoulie Ceesay, an agent with the National Drug Enforcement Agency, was the latest prosecution witness to testify in the matter and in his testimony, Ceesay cast his mind back to July 31 when 105 kg of cocaine was discovered concealed in a suitcase.

According to Ceesay, the cocaine was discovered following a search conducted by himself and officer Ango Jatta, who grew suspicious upon seeing the suitcase containing the drug.

“Jatta took note of the suitcase before summoning the owner, Ousman Bah, to open it. When Bah opened the container, parcels of cocaine were found in a plastic bag and he was consequently arrested and escorted to NDEA offices at the airport. He confessed being the owner of the drug and was therefore charged and detained,” Ceesay recounted.
