Expression of Sympathy on the tragic road accident at Serrekundanding

“It is with great dismay, consternation and disbelief that I learnt of the news of the terrible and tragic accident that occured in the village of Serrekundanding, Western Region, when a truck ran into a group of APRC supporters returning from a political meeting.

Words cannot describe the horror we feel about this tragedy not only because of the heavy loss of lives, mainly women and children, but it comes in the wake of the Local Government Elections scheduled to take place later this month and I am sure these victims were enthusiastically looking forward to exercising their right to participate in this democratic process.

The whole nation, irrespective of political affiliation regrets the loss of lives that resulted from this accident and mourns with you in this moment of grief and sorrow.

Nevertheless as Gambians and as our faith enjoins us to do, we cannot but accept this sad incident as the will of the Almighty Allah.

On behalf of the entire membership of the United Democratic Party and on my own behalf, I wish to to convey our heartfelt sympathy to you and the entire membership of the APRC and through you, our condolences to the families of the bereaved for this monumental loss.

May Allah the Almighty, in His infinite mercy, grant the deceased eternal repose.  We pray that God provides their families solace in these trying times and the fortitude to bear the loss. We wish the injured speedy recovery.

Please accept Mr. President, the expression of my highest consideration”.
