Man, 23, found guilty of murder

Sitafa Mara of Wellingara, who was standing trial on murder charges, yesterday told the Banjul Magistrates court presided over by Principal Magistrate B Y  Camara  that he accepted that he is guilty of killing one Abdoulie Ceesay of Wellingara in the Western Region.

Mr Mara who pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him said  “The deceased died, after I stabbed him with a knife. He would not have died if I did not stab him.”

At this juncture Magistrate Camara  transferred  the  case to the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, adding that the incident took place in the Western Region and therefore, the Brikama Court has the jurisdiction to preside over the case.

He further informed the accused that he has been charged with a capital offence, as a result of, which he is not entitled to bail. He ordered that the accused be kept in custody pending the continuation of the case at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
