VP Njie Saidy Hands Over Gifts to Newborn Babies

The Vice-President Dr. Isatou Njie Saidy, on behalf of the First Lady Madam Zeinab Jammeh, handed over gifts and cash to four mothers of newly born babies at RVTH on Tuesday. Each of the mothers of the first infants of 2008 was given baby items and a cash prize of D10,000.

Dr. Njie Saidy thanked Gamtel/Gamcel, GPA, Comium and Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation for sponsoring this year’s event and Operation Save-a-Baby management for their commitment towards the successful organisation of the event.

Speaking earlier Tombong Saidy, Chairman of Operations at Save-a-Baby said, this year is the year of the boys.

He stated the reasons for initiating Save-a-Baby were to compliment the Governments efforts in the health sector noting that since its inception the operation has bought a lot of incubators for the hospital. Mr Saidy said initially they used to give mothers baby items and a cash totaling D5,000 but this year the amount has increased to D10,000.

Fatou Faye from Sibanor is the mother of the first baby of the year, sponsored by Gamcel. The baby weighed 3.2kg.

Natou Conteh of Touba Sukuta in Kombo North is the mother of the first baby girl of the year, sponsored by GPA, the girl weighed 3kg.

Mariam Sey is the mother of the first baby boy of the year, sponsored by Comium, the baby weighed 1.8kg and the mother of the twin boys is Binta Jallow from Tallinding. One of the twins weighed 3.8kg while the other weighed in at 0.8kg. The twins were sponsored by Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation.

The ceremony was well attended by Secretaries of State and the vote of thanks was delivered by the Chief Medical Director of RVTH Dr. Mariatou Jallow.
