VP Njie-Saidy receives Moroccan surgeon

Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, the vice-president and secretary of state for Women’s Affairs, yesterday received the visiting renown Moroccan surgeon, Professor Raja Aghzhadi, at her office at State House, Banjul.

Accompanied to State House by Ousman Badjie, the Gambian ambassador to Morocco, Professor Raja Aghzhadi is currently in The Gambia to raise awareness on the devastating effects of breast cancer among women.

She has been participating actively to combat one of the worst forms of cancer in countries such as Mali, Niger and Ghana and now in The Gambia through the sharing of her expertise with Gambian medical practitioners.

Speaking to reporters soon after her audience with Vice-President Njie-Saidy, Professor  Aghzhadi who is also the special adviser of the Moroccan First Lady on breast cancer said, her mission to The Gambia is to raise awareness on breast cancer by sensitising health personnel and conduct operations.

The founder of Cœur de Femme, a Moroccan NGO leading the battle against breast cancer, the surgeon spoke about the fruitful interactive session she had with the medical personnel at Royal RVTH on Friday.

She described the sensitisation programme as successful, noting that she is yet to conduct any breast cancer operation in The Gambia.
