Francis Tuah Karpeh, the executive director of the African Development Bank (ADB) and Ms Soyata Maiga, the special rapporteuir on the rights of women in Africa, yesterday called on vice president, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, at her office  at State House in Banjul.

Speaking to journalists, shortly after speaking to the vice president, the ADB official said his visit is part of a routine  consultation with the Department of State for Finance and Economic  Affairs to discuss ways and means on how to  impact project implementation in a positive manner, noting that there may be some existing problems that may be outstanding that it cannot resolve with management “so we try to help others and put pressure on management to ensure that these problems are corrected and the problems can be implemented according to schedules”.

He added the visit also enables them to look at issues that will impact on the overall position of The Gambia at the bank in terms of the number of shares it has, thus giving the country a stronger voice at the continental institution.

“In all, we are here to ensure that The Gambia benefits to the maximum at the ADB,” he concludes.

For her part, Ms Soyata Maiga said her visit was meant to brief the vice president on the activities organised by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPRS) as well as to congratulate the goverment for the support it is rendering  to the commission.
