The joint Mawlud Nabi Gamo and Quranic recitation under the auspices of the Imam Ratib of Banjul, Alhagie Cherno Mass Kah, and the committee of Banjul Muslim Elders will be observed on Saturday, 14th March, 2009 in Banjul.

The annual Gamo, which is part of the activities making the birth of Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him), will be held at the Independence Drive Mosque in Banjul, where the recitation of the Holy Qu’ran will take place, whilst the Gamo will be hosted at the King Fahad Mosque in Banjul.

According to the organizers of the night, the Gamo will be addressed by Imam Ratib Kah, whist Alagie Muhammed Lamin Bah, a principal and veteran preacher will deliver a sermon on the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (SAW). The Gamo, it was said, will also be punctuated with Islamic songs by various Dairas. The gathering will also be used to remember the late Alhagie Muahmmed Lamin Bah, who was well known for delivering sermons at the Mawlud Nabi Gamo in Banjul.

Biography of the Holy Prophet
The Holy Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) was born on Monday, 12th Rabi W Awal, corresponding to 29th August, 570 AD, in the Arabic town of Mecca. His father, Abdullah, died before he was born, and his mother Amina died when he was six years old. He was then brought up by his grandfather, Abdul Mutalib.

Muhammed received the mantle of prophethood at the age of 40 in the cave of Hira. He came at a time when the Arabs were sunk in idolatry, immorality, and barbarism. The prophet was inspired to show them the right path. The message he brought (the Holy Qu’ran) is still preserved in its original form. The Holy Prophet lived for 65 years.
