A one-day sensitisation workshop on Students’ Success Strategies in the West African School Certificate Examination was last Friday held at the Gambia Senior Secondary School, Banjul.

The training which brought together students from Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools in Greater Banjul Area, was funded and sponsored by the Youth Care Foundation (YCF), The Gambia.

The day’s sensitisation was meant to develop students in WAEC standard  codes, as well as reduce failures and increase performance in WAEC exams.In his welcoming remarks at the ceremony, the director of Youth Care Foundation The Gambia, Kolapo Abdul, highlighted the importance of YCF. According to him, the organisation is a youth-focused NGO, with the ambition of promoting academic excellence and development of education in The Gambia.

He advised students that as future leaders, they need to perform well in school. He urged them to make best use of the sensitisation. For his part, Sulayman A Njie, from the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education, advised the students to seize the opportunity provided by the workshop, and work hard in order to pass their exams. He thanked YCF for organising the sensitisation program.

Bubacarr Mbye of WAEC, highlighted some WAEC examination standard requirements as well as codes for students and teachers. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) was established in December 1952 with the aim of conducting examinations in the public interest.
