Bansang Alkalo Removed

Sunday, May 27, 2007

The embattled Alkalo of Bansang village in the Central River Region, Mr. Lamin Saiba Darboe, received his marching orders yesterday, The Point was informed.

Mr. Darboe, who is currently facing criminal charges for allegedly aiding and abetting cattle theft, is now said to be replaced by Mr. Alhagie Kebba Corra, the son of the late Alkalo, Mr. Boo Cora. Former Alkalo Saiba Darboe is said to have received his termination letter from the local government authorities.

It could be recalled that following his arrest for giving the Alkalo’s village stamp to one Yero Sey, an alleged notorious cattle rustler in the area, with the purpose of giving him a smooth passage through security check points, Darboe was remanded at the Janjanbureh prison by Travelling Magistrate Baldeh at his first appearance in court. He has since been granted bail.

Mr. Darboe has now hired the services of defence counsel Jorbateh.
