The Governor of Central River Region, Mr. Gangie Touray, recently embarked on a familiarization tour of Bansang referral hospital in what could be described as another step closer in obtaining first hand information about the state of affairs  at  the health facility.

As part of the visit, the CRR governor who is also the hospital board chair, was led on a conducted tour of various units of the hospital by the principal nursing officer.

According to Governor Touray, the visit was also aimed at meeting and associating with the hospital staff in his capacity as the chairman of the board of governors of the hospital.

Speaking shortly after the conducted tour, Mr. Touray expressed satisfaction about what he called the significant transformation that the hospital underwent despite the constraints.
He stressed that quality health-care delivery is uppermost on President Jammeh’s development agenda. The president, he said, have done and continues to do all it takes to ensure quality healthy care delivery to every Gambian and non-citizens resident in the country. Governor Touray asserted that no nation-state can realize any meaningful development without a healthy population.

Mr. Touray finally thanked the staff of Bansang Hospital for their ‘hard work’.
The Principal Nursing Officer of the hospital, Wandifa Samateh, recalled that the hospital in Bansang is one of the oldest major hospitals in The Gambia, covering a large area. He explained that the hospital is serving not only Gambians but non-Gambians as well, hence the high demand.

According to Mr. Samateh, the health facility had experienced some major improvements, particularly the maternity unit. He disclosed that deaths during birth have significantly reduced as compared previous years.
Mr. Samateh thanked all those he described regular donors of the hospital for their continued support. He, through the governor, appealed for support to enable the hospital acquire an air conditioner in the pharmacy for their drugs, sterilizing machine, tools for the maintenance team among others.

Meanwhile, Governor Touray was accompanied to Bansang Hospital by some members of his office and the Officer Commanding CRR police.
