GEPDG, Youths Clean Gunjur

Friday, July 13, 2007

As environmental sanitation continues to preoccupy the attention of the central government and like-minded institutions, Gunjur Environmental and Protection Development Group (GEPDG) in collaboration with the youths of Gunjur recently conducted a massive cleansing exercise along the Gunjur/Brikama Highway.

The exercise was in response to President Jammeh’s clarion call for environmental sanitation locally referred to as Set-Settal.

In an exclusive interview with The Point’s Gunjur-based reporter during the exercise, the Executive Director of GEPDG, Mr. Badara Njie Bajo, posited that the exercise was just the beginning of a series of environmental cleansing exercises that his organization intends to embark upon in conjunction with the youths of Gunjur. He pointed out that the event was conceived and carried out thanks to his organization’s recognition of the fact that keeping the environment clean is a collective responsibility.

According to Mr. Njie Bajo, though environment is a crucial component in our march towards sustainable socio-economic development, GEPDG would nonetheless spread its tentacles to other areas of Gunjur’s development endeavours.

He thanked the women of Gunjur for their enthusiasm throughout the exercise.

Speaking earlier, Alhaji Keejara Barrow, a representative of Gunjur Council of Elders, congratulated GEPDG and the youths of Gunjur for taking the center stage in efforts geared towards the development of the town.
He, therefore, stressed the importance of unity and understanding among the youths for the realization of their noble objective.
