Brikama zonal team started the 2006 Zonal Football Championship with an emphatic 4-0 victory over the arch rivals, Banjul in their debut match in Group A.
An arguable one-sided match played at Box-Bar Mini-stadium on Tuesday, the Western Region side sensationally scored two goals in each half to render the visiting City Boys harmless.
Taking advantage of the home crowd, Brikama went into the game with brink of confidence and determination. Just 4th minutes into the game, Brikama took the lead through Buba Jammeh’s blistering finisher from a corner kick. Moments later, the home side doubled the advantage when Lamin Sanyang capitalised on a defensive error. Brikama held on to the deserving 2-0 lead until the expiration of the first interval.
Fresh from break, Banjul were set to find a good footing, but the Brikama side hardly gave them any breathing space. In the 63rd minutes, Sainey Sambou slotted in the third goal before Lamin Darboe, a brother to Buba Darboe, sealed the game at 4-0 as Banjul looked in disbelief.
The stunning victory made Brikama level with Gunjur on top of Group A, with Brikama enjoying a two-goal advantage.
At the time of going to press last night, Bakau were locking horns with Serrekunda West at West Mini-stadium while Serrekunda East were also taking on Lamin at East Mini-stadium.
