The Western Region Disaster Management Committee on Wednesday presented forty-five bags of rice, ten bags of sugar, fifty-five buckets and ten cartons of second hand cloths to families affected by the flood in the Western Region during this year’s rainy season, at a presentation held at the Governor’s office in Brikama.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Sereign Modou Joof, Public Relations Officer of Brikama Area Council, who also doubles as the Secretary of Western Region Disaster Committee on behalf of the Western Region Governor expressed appreciation to the donors. He sympathised with the affected victims and assured victims of the committee’s commitment to helping any one who falls victim to such situations.
He stated that the disaster committee was established to combat any arising problem related to disaster. He asserted that the work is a tedious one, especially during the rainy season.
According to him, the need for assistance to victims is essential and this was the reason why President Jammeh came up with a disaster management secretariat.
For his part, Foday Jarju, who represented the Alkalo of Sohm village, Kombo East, which was also affected by the rain, expressed his profound gratitude to the Western Region Disaster Management Committee and the Vice President who is the Chairperson of the National Disaster Management Committee for their support.
Other speakers include Lamin Gassama, Chairperson, Western Region Youth Committee.
The ceremony was chaired by Lamin Fatty of the Western Region Red Cross branch.
