After their amalgamation to form one common front, students from the four schools of The Gambia College on Friday elected Musa H Camara, a student from the Gambia College School of Public Health as the president of The Gambia College Students’ Union at an election held at the college campus in Brikama.
According to Lamin Saho, head of the IEC, other positions contested for were: Information minister, laundary and women affairs minister, social secretary and health minister, all of which were unopposed.
Mr Saho asserted that the concept of the amalgamation was welcomed by all four schools this prompted highest voter registration the college has ever experienced.
For Demba Ceesay, registrar of the Gambia College, the amalgamation is a step in the right direction. He reiterated that the effort to harmonise the four schools in the college was a long term proposal but was never implemented.
“The college’s administration alone cannot oversee the activities of the college and the students at the same time,” he said.
Mr Ceesay further urged students to do away with anything that may bring division within the college. He also urged the union executive to live up to expectations and to exercise patience and discipline in their routine duties.
Mr Musa H Camara the newly elected president of the union vowed to work hard in glove with his executive.
