Following the peaceful change of government in Sierra Leone, culminating in the APC party’s ascension to power, the ousted ruling party, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has since been enforcing strategies to gain strength come next elections.

To this end the SLPP branch in The Gambia recently named an interim executive after an election recently at the IPAM Institute on the Brikama high way.

The election saw Eddie Yonnie taking over as Chairman to reorganize the group after the mistake in the last elections. In his triumphal address after the election, Mr. Yonnie said: “The party is our party. Whether in power or not we are there. Our presence here shows our commitment to the party and we know we shall rise.” Eddie Yonnie was elected to lead the party on an interim basis lasting for three months. Ibrahim Bundu took up as the Vice President; Martine Juana retained as the Secretary, and George Doming is retained in the position of Assistant.

Mamie Bongay becomes the women’s head, John Kanu the Treasurer and Bangura went for Finance. Foday Rogers won the position of Social Secretary and Austin K. Mustapha becomes the Public Relations Officer.

Ibrahim Bundu, the Vice Chairman, said the group needed to work tooth and nail to bring back lost members, especially those who felt defeated. “The branch should be thinking of bringing members to the party. We did not fail; let us encourage one another to let everyone know SLLP is for one people and one country,” Edwin Alpha said.
