What is it all about NAYCO? Well, NAYCO is a local NGO cum a consortium of more than 25 youth and children organizations working towards the promotion of the rights and welfare of children.
NAYCO was established in 1999 by dynamic youth leaders who were ambassadors of their various national and local youth and children organizations during the commemoration of the Day of the African Child held in Brikama. Since then, the National Association of Youth and Children Organization has been working towards the full realization and participation of youths and children in all decision-making issues affecting them as well as developing their capacities for sustainable development.
Vision
A well developed, rights and gender-focused children and youths, free from poverty, well educated to ensure their effective participation to eradicate all forms of violence and discrimination against them in The Gambia.
Mission
NAYCO shall be committed to the holistic development of its member organizations by promoting:
(a) Rights and gender awareness to increase the participation of its member organizations, particularly girls in community development.
(b) Capacity building through material and skill training to create greater employment opportunities for young people in The Gambia.
(c) Basic social services such as education, environment, sanitation and health, particularly HIV/Aids prevention and control.
(d) Voluntarism and internship to give young people exposure and work experience before employment.
Objectives
Among its objectives is to ensure children and youths access information and training, encourage children and youth to be involved in national and international activities, foster mutual understanding and friendship amongst youths and children’s organizations, especially its member organizations.
Also, endeavor to improve the status of children and youths in The Gambia. Finally, to engage in any other endeavor that has the approval of the General Assembly.
