The man, currently being tried on allegation of raping a Peace Corps volunteer, last week caused a stir at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court when he told the court that he was in fact the rape victim and not otherwise.
Abdoulie Badjie has been charged with raping a Peace Corps volunteer in Campasa village in the Western Region of The Gambia.
In his evidence, Badjie counter-alleged that it was in fact the volunteer who first demanded to go to bed with him.
He pointed out that the Peace Corps volunteer promised to foot his educational expenses once he agreed to have sexual intercourse with her.
“One day, I was going for my results in Campasa and she joined me. On our way in the bush, she complained of being tired of riding the bicycle. We then stopped for a rest and in the process, she sat on me and demanded sex. She promised to sponsor me if we do the thing. But to my consternation, I was summoned to Kalagi Police Station few days later accused of rape,” Badjie adduced.
The case, presided over by magistrate E.F. Mbai, resumes April 10th.
