Baba Jobe Needs Urgent Assistance

Thursday, April 5, 2007
Baba Jobe, a 19-year-old Gambian student residing in Lamin village in the Western Region, has been diagnosed as having abdominal pain which has caused him to discontinue his schooling.

A medical report issued by the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) on Baba’s condition states that the surgical operation recommended for him cannot be done in the Gambia and therefore recommends treatment abroad.

Baba, a Grade 11 student, has been attending Mahaad Senior Secondary School in Brikama.

According to Lamin Ceesay, a relative of Baba, the ailment has caused Baba to stop going to school for two years now.

“Baba’s condition is deteriorating rapidly,” he said, adding that Baba had been an outstanding student in Mahaad SSS and set records at Grade 10 and 11.

“Baba has demonstrated extra-ordinary skills and aptitude in his examinations,” said Mr Jobe, Baba’s father.

Mr Jobe is making passionate call on the public to come to their aid. “ I am pleading with especially President Yahya Jammeh, the NGOs, philanthropists and individuals to give us assistance so that we find a cure to Baba’s ailment,” he said.
