Magistrate Mbye tough with drivers

Abdoulie Trawally, a driver, was on Wednesday charged and convicted by Magistrate EF Mbaye of Brikama Magistrates’ Court, for traffic obstruction on a public highway contrary to the Motor Traffic Act.

According to the particulars of the offence, Abdoulie Trawally on or about the 21st May 2007 in Brikama Town drove and parked a vehicle at a place that is said to be no parking, causing traffic obstruction.
When the charge sheet was read to him, he pleaded guilty. 

Handing down his ruling, Magistrate Mbaye told the accused that before pleading for mercy it would have been better to stick to the rules of the traffic. He then fined him D1,000 fine or in indefault to serve six months prison term.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant 84 stood for the IGP.

In the same vein, Magistrate Mbaye convicted one Karafa Bojang also a driver in Brikama for driving a vehicle without a brake and a horn.
The particulars of the offence states that Kafara Bojang on May,8 2007 in Brikama Town drove a vehicle without a rear break and a horn.

When the charge sheet was read to him, he pleaded guilty on both counts and pleaded for the court to have mercy on him.
In his ruling, Magistrate Mbaye fined him for an amount of D1,000 in default to serve six months prison term.

Magistrate Mbaye also ordered the convict to repair the said rare brakes and the horn immediately, adding that driving a vehicle without such important requirements lead to fatal accidents.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant 84 Njie stood for the IGP.
