The Peer Health Association of the Gambia College chapter, the Youth with a Vision, recently held a one-day training workshop on the prevention of malaria and HIV/AIDS.
The training, held at the college’s main hall, was attended by participants from the NSGA, members of the Peer Health Association, and the students of the Gambia College.
In his address on the occasion, the coordinator of the programme, Mr. Mbye, said the training was meant to improve the accessibility of medicated nets and condoms and encourage its proper usage as a tool in the fight against malaria and the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
He warned against the misuse of mosquito nets and condoms, which, he said, could make someone vulnerable to the pandemic and therefore urged them to make use of the protective materials properly.
The vice-president of the association, Providence Mendy, together with the facilitator of the programme, said that so many factors are responsible for the high prevalence of the pandemic.
He however said, with the effective participation of young people, the situation could be put under control. He also reiterated his call on the youth to be committed to the fight against the pandemic.
Other speakers on the occasion included Mr. Jabbie, Secretary General, Layen Mbye, Social Secretary and Mr. Ceesay representative from the NSGA, who chaired the occasion.
