Youths Sensitized on Malaria Prevention

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

The Gambia College chapter of Youths with a Vision recently organized a day’s training workshop with a view to raising the awareness of members on malaria and its prevention.

The workshop was attended by participants from NSGA and students’ associations.

In her welcoming address, the Coordinator of the Peer Health Association of the college, Mr. Layen Mbye, explained that the forum was meant to encourage proper usage of mosquito nets as ‘improper use of nets can make one vulnerable to the killer disease’.

He pointed out that young people are indispensable forces in the fight against malaria and consequently urged them to tighten their belts in the collective fight to eradicate the disease.

Providence Mendy, Vice President of the association also a resource person at the forum, highlighted that so many factors are responsible for the prevalence of malaria.
He was however quick to add that the effective participation of young people would help in curbing the status quo.
