Senior Magistrate EF M’Bai of the Brikama Magistrates court, on Monday, ordered one Sulay Drammeh to present one Bunja Drammeh or otherwise pay an amount of D10, 000.
Sulay Drammeh is acting as the surety of his accused brother, Bunja Drammeh, who is standing court trials for stealing a car radio cassettes player from a frontera vehicle, valued at D2500, being the property of one Fatou Bojang.
When the case was called on Monday, Sulay Drammeh, the surety of the accused, Bunja Drammeh, told the court that Bunja was nowhere to be seen, adding that he had made all the efforts to trace him out but to no avail. He told the court that he used to hear the accused persons whereabouts from people.
In handing down his verdict, Magistrate M’Bai ordered Sulay Drammeh to look for the accused and bring him to the court or pay D10, 000. He further put it to Mr Drammeh that that was the only option that the court could order in the case, adding that if not that way anyone can come and bail to the court.
He told the court that if one bails the other, he/she was stepping in the shoe of that person. “You cannot bail some one without monitoring him” M’Bai adviced. But Sulay Drammeh, the surety, maintained that the accused was his brother. M’Bai further put it to the him that even he pay the D10, 000, it won’t mean that is the end of the case.
Magistrate M’Bai then adjourned the case to 21 April for continuation.
