Thursday, November 29, 2007

All is set for the popular Brufut Marathon race which is annually organised by the Brufut Marathon Run Association (BMRA). The keenly-awaited traditional showpiz is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2008, in the Kombo North village of Brufut.

The theme for this year’s race is ‘Run Against Illegal Migration’, a deadly practice that continues to claim the precious lives of many African youths.

To ensure a successful and memorable event, the organisers have included new events this year.

Apart from the long and short distance races for male and female participants, there will also be a wheelchair race for the disabled youths. The usual half-kilometre race for children is also expected to gather momentum, as well as an open bicycle race, which will commence at the 22 July Square in Banjul to Brufut, via Bond Road, Bakau Cape Point, Traffic Light, Brusubi and Ghana Town.

According to the organisers, attractive prizes ranging from cash amounts, trophies, medals, bags of rice and T-shirts await the prospective winners, as well as a certificate of participation for each participant.
