Boost for Brufut Marathon Run

The 2007 annual Brufut Marathon set for December 8, recently received two cheques of D75,000 and D16,000 as contribution for the event from the Taf holding company and Friends of the Gambia Association of UK(FROGS) respectively.

In presenting the cheque to the financial director of the Brufut Marathon Association, both organisations expressed appreciation to the Brufut Marathon Run committee, for an initiative geared towards raising funds to assist needy students, and rendering support to hospitals. They promised to be part of the event annually.
Ba Jabbi, Chairman of the Brufut Marathon committee, said as part of preparation for the marathon run, a  stakeholders’ workshop will be organized on Saturday at the Golden Beach Hotel to  discuss issues concerning illegal migration which is the theme for this year’s event.

He said participants will be drawn from all coastal villages and towns in the country and the workshop will deliberate on the effects, causes and measures of illegal migration. He said this will be documented at the end of the workshop and will be presented to government and stakeholders for urgent action.

The events of the marathon are as follows: 24 km cycling race will commence from July 22 Square via Stink Corner and MRC road, to Brufut, 15Km run from Traffic lights to Brufut. An 8 km race for females is tom take off from Brusubu roundabout to Brufut. All other races are to take place in Brufut proper.

Trophies, medals, cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to participants.
Another benefit of the run is that all participants will earn raffle tickets to win a bag of rice.
