Thumb Up to BMRA!

Thursday, December 27, 2007

Dear Editor,
Kindly allow me space in your widely read newspaper to sincerely express my profound gratitude and appreciation to the sponsors and participants of the 13th annual Brufut Marathon Run 2007 and proudly say ‘Thumb Up to Brufut Marathon Run Association (BMRA)’. It could be positively recalled that this year marks another successful organizing of the famous annual Brufut Marathon event 8th December that brought joy to the coastal Village of Kombo North-Brufut.

The annual Brufut Marathon event is known worldwide for the friendly atmosphere it brings annually among the youths of Brufut and developing the talent of long distance runners in The Gambia. I am impressed with the friendly existing relationship of BMRA and Youths of Njawara Village at Badibu which is worth emulating. Indeed this year witnessed another remarkable achievement to start the male and female events at strategic distance towards a fully fledged Marathon Run not withstanding the increased distance of the Bicycle Race, the involvement of the disabled Wheel Chair Race and Women of Brufut. The theme, ‘Run Against Illegal Migration’ is a global concern particularly to the families who lost their people. The carnage that occurred in The Gambia two months ago served as a practical example to those who believed that Illegal Migration is the only solution for their successful journey to Europe. Perhaps I need not dwell on the suffering of illegal migrants in Europe.

BMRA need to be commended for coming up with this year’s theme and organizing of a brilliant workshop at Golden Beach Hotel to sensitize The Gambia’s youths on the dangers of Illegal Migration. Keep up the momentum my fellow brothers and sisters, what you are doing is worth more than a million pounds project. It is only a matter of time until the Brufut Marathon shall become one of the biggest Marathon events in The Gambia and whole of Africa. I have no doubt with the peaceful coexistence of its members, the community of Brufut and our beloved country, the event will attract more participants each year. Thanks to Mustapha Njie(Taf), Friends of The Gambia Association, and Talinding Nursery  Project for the sponsorship. May God continue to give you the strength and support to sustain the annual Brufut Marathon, Amen!.
