Africa Muslim Agency (AMC) recently held its annual Quranic recitation competition at the School of Orphans in Brufut in which seventeen Islamic schools took part.
In an interview with The Point newspaper, the Director-General of Africa Muslim Agency, Muhammed Goumi, said AMC is a charitable organisation in The Gambia whose "main target is to help the Muslim Ummah".
He added that this department is focusing not only on Islamic activities but also on education, infrastructure and social welfare programmes.
Mr. Goumi said they always give a helping hand to both Muslims and Christians.
He said that out of the seventeen schools that participated in the competition they would select the most outstanding ones to represent The Gambia at the Quranic Verse World Competition to be held in Dubai.
The outstanding winner of the competition was Demba Cokor, who won a bicycle and some invaluable Quranic books.
For his part, the President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, Alhagi Banding Drammeh, applauded Mr. Goumi for the initiative and advised the students to adhere to the teaching of Prophet Muhammed (SAW) and the Quran.
Mr. Amadou Sabally, assistant coordinator of AMC moderated the opening ceremony.
