The Brufut-based Gilkock Football Academy will host over 400 youngsters from their sister academies across the country for the annual Inter-Gilkock football jamboree. The keenly awaited event is scheduled for October 20, 2007 and the day-long show-piece, which over the years has attracted public attention with huge media coverage, will be in the form of a talent show and football matches for different categories.
Sang Mendy, Public Relations Officer of the Brufut Gilkock Football Academy outlined the need to mark the event annually as it allows the players to interact, show what they are capable of and as well learn from each other.
Mendy was quick to lament on the lack of sponsorship to successfully run the event over the years and hoped that this year that would be a thing of the past.
He urged all stakeholders and individuals who have the means to come to their aid to ensure a successful jamboree.
Burama Dibba, another member of the academy expressed optimism for a successful hosting of this year’s event, noting that ‘the Brufut academy is a very organised academy.
Dibba also agreed with Mendy that lack of sponsorship has been the main constraint as far as the annual sporting event is concerned, and called on stakeholders to come to their aid.
