Murder Case Transferred

Sunday, June 10, 2007

The alleged murder that occurred in the Serekunda suburb of Ebo Town has now shifted to the law courts but the matter could not proceed when it was declared that it was beyond the jurisdiction of the court to which it was taken to.

One Omar Touray yesterday appeared before magistrate Amina Saho-Ceesay at Bundung Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing one Doudou Sanyang by hitting him with a car some two years ago. The police have now charged him with driving an unlicensed automobile as well as driving it in a negligent and rash manner thereby causing Sanyang’s death.

But the case could not proceed when magistrate Amina Saho-Ceesay transferred it to Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on premise that the matter transcended the jurisdiction of her court and that the court in Kanifing was the perfect place for the case to be heard.

She however granted Touray bail in the sum of D100,000 with Gambians, who must satisfy the bail conditions, as sureties.

1042 Kujabi represented the Inspector General of Police in the matter.
