At least three students were on Sunday certified from Asbunallahu Islamic Forum School for completing a three-year intensive Qu’ranic recitation, at a colourfull graduation ceremony that attracted parents and members of the Nigerian and Sierra Leonean communities in The Gambia, held at its secretariat in Bundung.

In an interview with the Daily Observer shortly after the ceremony, Musibau Raimi, Secretary-General of the association, said during the course of this period, the students learned Qu’ranic and its transliteration in English, as well as Hadith.

According to him, this association was formed ten years ago to propagate Islam amongst Nigerians, Sierra Leonean and Gambians as well. “The reason is that we want our children boost their morals and inculcate in their minds the spirit of Islam.” he said.

He added that this year’s graduation ceremony is the first of its kind since the inception of the association in 1998. He, however, disclosed that the association is also trying to have its own secretariat and within the complex, if possible they want to have a Mosque inside it, where they can give lectures both in Arabic and English.

“As part of our programmes, we also render assistance to our fellows who come newly to the country in terms of accomodation and finance to allow them settle down to desist them from ending being criminals and robbers on the street,” he noted.

He added that the membership for the association is open to every body, irrespective of nationality.

He then called on the government, philanthropists, NGOs and other donor organisations to come to their aid as the move is geared towards supporting Islam.
