DPS Forestry Appears in Court, Granted Bail

Mr. Momodou O. Njie, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of Forestry, yesterday appeared at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court to answer to charges being preferred against him. Mr Njie has been charged with two counts of publishing false information and impersonation.

According to the police officer in charge of the case, Mr. Njie on 19th February 2008 at the Papparazzi Bar at Senegambia, allegedly gave false news to one Mr. Musa that Amadou Samba is not the true owner of the Daily Observer Newspaper.

He is also being charged with having posed before a staff of Papparazzi Bar as one employed at the State House of the Republic of The Gambia. Mr Njie has denied both charges.

Meanwhile he has been granted bail in the sum of D100, 000 with a Gambian national as surety.

The matter continues on Tuesday, 18th March 2008.

Mr Njie was on Thursday, 21 February 2008, arrested and taken into custody by the police and has since been remanded.
