Germany-Based Gambian in Housing Debacle

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Alieu Nyabally, a Gambian domiciling in Germany, was apparently a disappointed man when he recently told a magistrates’ court that his housing project had shattered into shambles after investing over D1, 117,500 in it.

Alieu had brought a legal suit against one Mr. Jatta for allegedly failing to execute a housing project that was assigned to him.

Testifying before Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, Alieu recalled that he had an intention to build a multi- storey building in 2006 and consequently informed his brother about it.

He added:“ Upon communicating my intention to my brother, he informed me that he had a neighbour who was working in the construction industry. He then linked me to Jatta to discuss about the project. During our discussion, I informed him that I had D10,500 and five vehicles to invest in the multi-storey building. He agreed and told me that the only business I will have with him is the handing over of the house keys to me in March of 2007 or before the end of the year. I paid him D375, 500 and D750,000 worth of cars but he failed to carry out the project.”

The case was at that juncture adjourned to the 2nd of April 2008, to enable Jatta render his own account.
