At least, seven schools - Lebba, Panchang, Bati Ndarr, Kerr Auldi, Maka Janneh, Njau and Palele Lower Basic Schools - and three health centres namely - Kaur, Kuntaur and Chamen Health Centres - in the Central River Region (CRR), on Saturday November 1, received medical and learning items worth over four hundred thousand dalasis from The Gambia Schools Project.
The materials which included computers, bicycles, spectacles, sewing machines, toys, furniture, and blankets were presented to the beneficiaries at Jarang in the Upper Saloum District, CRR.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Baboucarr Touray, a founding member of The Gambia Schools Project, gave a brief history of the project.
The regional director of schools in Region 5, Baboucarr Suwareh, commended the donors for the benevolent gesture. He said the donated items will go a long way in complementing the government’s efforts.
The National Assembly Member for Upper Fulladou West, Muhammadou MS Jallow hailed the efforts of the donors and called on others to emulate them. He said the donated items will contribute immensely to the socio-economic advancement of the region.
The regional governor, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, received the donated items on behalf of the beneficiaries. The ceremony was chaired by the National Assembly member of the area, Honourable Sainey Mbye.
