The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights will celebrate “African Human Rights Day” on Saturday, 21 October 2006.
According to a letter sent on Tuesday to this paper, series of activities and events have been planned to mark the day.
The activities will include a one-mile march-past starting from Shell petrol station in Fajara to the Commission’s headquarters in Senegambia.
The march, the letter stated, will include schoolchildren and university students, the civil society, human rights organisations, NGOs/IGOs and members of the diplomatic corps.
During the occasion, special leaflets, banners and T-shirts will be distributed to the participants, the letter added.
It also stated that there will also be a radio phone-in programme on the activities of the Commission and its Secretariat and, during the programme, listeners can ask or send in questions on the subject of discussion to which the commissioners or staff of the Commission will be willing to respond.
