The Fajara Club Tennis Section capped off a successful 2007 annual tennis tournament on Saturday, March 3, with an award dinner dance at the Fajara Club.

Over 50 participants-juniors aged between 6 and 18, and adults played in the month-long competition sponsored by Moukhtara Holdings Company and GAMBEGA.

For the first time, boys and girls as young as 6-years-old were encouraged to play in the competition and club members were treated to an impressive display of skills and talents from all of the youngsters. The first-ever senior division was also added in the adult competition, which resulted in a strong field of players above 45-years-old competing for the title.

A raffle draw was held during the Award Dinner to raise funds for the refurbishment of a court. The raffle was sponsored by Ocean Bay Hotel, Mansea Beach Hotel, The Dolphin, Captain Bob, Julbrew, Gambega, Timbooktoo, Andy Milford, Seafood shop, Mark Harrison, Sangol Holdings, Tony Banna, SASCO, Gifts R Us, John at The Hair Studio at Paradise Suites, Exel, Balamansa restaurant, Toureg Al Baba, Sangol Holdings, the Massage Parlour Banna Beach Hotel, Dutch Whale restaurant, Suelle at The Salon, Sherri Tavangar, Sonya’s Garden Restaurant, the Ritz, Tara’s Grill, Time Out, Taste of India, Bombay Chowpatty, La Cantina, Shiraz, Nostalgia, Mama’s, Butcher’s shop and Green Mamba.

Singles Under 8 years: Charles Mandine (Champion), Louis Mattelin (Finalist), Yatou Sallah (Best Girl Player)

Singles Under 10 years: Santiago Rayment Gomez (Champion), Samsudeen Sallah (Finalist), Crystal Turton (Best Girl Player)

Singles Under 14 years: Tom Bresseleer (Champion)

Doubles Under 14 years: Fourkhan Tasbasi and Jacob Nyangado (Champions) and Tom and Ben Bresseleer (Finalists)

Singles Under 18 years: Shaddie Mahmoud (Champion) and Ahmet Tasbasi (Finalist)

Women’s Singles: Cathy Osiru (Champion) and Yvonne Stredder (Finalist)

Women’s Doubles: Cathy Osiru and Yvonne Stredder (Champions) and Katie Paine and Jo Anne Sallah (Finalists)

Mixed Doubles: Yvonne Stredder and Mark Harrison (Champions) and Katie Paine and Sam Owen (Finalists)

Men’s Singles over 45: Nicolas Blell (Champion) and Sharif Sallah (Finalist)

Men’s Singles: Mark Harrison (Champion) and Minde Ladavicius (Finalist)
