US-Gambia Cordial Relationship to Continue, Says Ambassador Wells

The newly appointed United States Ambassador to The Gambia has assured Gambians of his country’s continued cordial relationship with The Gambia.

 Ambassador Barry Wells maintained that The Gambia has been blessed with a relatively long-established relationship with the US and gave an undertaking to be aligned to that prevailing mood in order that that relationship remains unaltered. 

He made this declaration last Thursday at the time that he hosted an unusual reception to formally welcome the new embassy officials including himself at his residence in Fajara, Bakau.

He made known his objective to strengthen the bilateral co-operations between the two countries, adding that he would be working devotedly with the Peace Corps in the country in their endeavours.

At the reception were distinguished government officials, including the speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, Hon. Musa Bala Gaye Secy. for Finance, Hon. Mass Axie Gye, Secy. for Youth and Sports, Brigadier General Lang Tombong Tamba, and Mr Benedict Jammeh, Chief of Defence Staff of the armed forces and the Inspector General of Police respectively.

A collection of politicians from both the ruling and the opposition parties, including Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the main opposition party, UDP, Mr Omar Jallow, alias OJ, of the opposition NADD also graced the occasion.

Diplomats, business executives as well as media chiefs, such like, Mr. Swaebou Conateh, Dida Halake and Pap Saine were among the attending dignitaries.
