Mr Malick Mboob, former Communications Officer of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital, who was arrested on 24 May this year in connection with the hacked Freedom newspaper saga of a former Point journalist Pa Ndery Mbye, has been released.

Mr Mboob was released on Monday together with Duta Kamaso, former National Assembly Member for Wuli East, who was arrested and detained in May on political and security matters.

The two were released from the headquarters of the National Intelligence Agency on court order. Mr Mboob was represented by Lawyer Edu Gomez whilst Duta Kamaso was represented by lawyer Borry Touray. Both have since been reporting on bail.

“Thank God I have been finally released after spending 139 days at the NIA headquarters. I am now at home,” Mr Mboob said yesterday in a telephone interview.

According to our sources, the only person being detained at the NIA headquarters in connection with the Freedom newspaper saga is Staff Sergeant Buba Jammeh of State House. He has been in detention since 30 May this year.

It would be recalled that early last month, Lamin Bojang, who works at the MRC in Farafenni, was released following a habeas corpus application invoked on his behalf.
