Wednesday, August 1, 2007

The Farato-based Youth Movement for Peace and Unity is currently implementing a rice project as part of efforts to boost food security and food self-sufficiency.

The movement is executing a three-hectare Nerica rice project aimed at, among others, creating gainful employment opportunities for youths and to help in the sustained fight against hunger.

In an exclusive interview with The Point, Momodou Bah, President of Farato Youth Movement for Peace and Unity, described agriculture as the backbone of the Gambian economy.
According to him, his movement, with support from government, the private sector and NGOs, intends to spread their tentacles to other areas of the country.

For his part, the secretary of the movement, Mr. Ebrima Ceesay, made a clarion call on youths to unite for a positive change.
He thanked the government of The Gambia for creating the ‘enabling’ environment for the growth of the agriculture sector.

Mr. Ceesay did not also forget to thank Madam Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay, Speaker of the National Assembly, for giving them three bags of Nerica rice.
