Borry Touray Withdraws As Farato Imam Trial Continues

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

One of the counsels for the embattled Farato man currently under trial at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court over allegations of violently assaulting the Imam of Farato village in Kombo South, has withdrawn his representation from the case.

Lawyer Borry Touray made his withdrawal known early last week following recent developments between him and the relatives of his client that have brought latent disaffection out into open.

It would be recollected that Mr. Borry Touray was sometime this month subjected to a verbal and near-physical assault by some members of Kemo Saho’s extended family who were apparently infuriated by Lawyer Touray’s ‘nonchalant attitude’ towards their relative’s trial.

Lawyer Borry Touray was among a team of lawyers who were seeking Kemo Saho’s exoneration from charges of assaulting Imam Samba Bah of Farato village thereby causing him actual bodily harm.

However, on the resumption of the trial on Tuesday at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, Counsel Touray informed magistrate Edrisa Mbai that he could no longer continue representing Kemo Saho because his patience over the hard time he have been enduring from Saho’ family has reached a breaking point. He was quick to add that he harboured no ill-feelings for Saho and if anything, he would pursue his extrication from the long arm of the law but the trouble was just enough.

“I have already refunded the family their fees and handed over the case file to my learned colleague, Edu Gomez, informing him of my withdrawal from the case,” he postulated.

Meanwhile, Kemo Saho’s extended family may be stripped off the right/privilege of attending the trial proceedings of their loved one if they ever again ‘mal-conduct’ themselves in court, if what magistrate Mbai said is anything to go by.

He warned Kemo Saho that his relatives may be completely banned from his court if they should misbehave again.
