The second edition of the Foni Berefet Youth Championship gets underway last Saturday at the Bullock Mini Stadium with 12 teams vying for the trophy.
Seaview of Bullock took center against Orlando of Ndemban in the opening game, which ended with a 1-1 draw.
It was a well-contested game characterized by brilliant performance from both teams.
Speaking to Pointsport after the game, Lamin Saho, Secretary General of Foni Berefet District Sport Committee revealed that the championship aims at mobilizing and re-uniting the youth within the District in respect of their political affiliation, adding that they should work together for the betterment and development of the district.
“Without Unity among ourselves, there can’t be any meaningful future development and Football is a vital tool to unite people,” he revealed.
He emphasised that the tournament will be conducted within the contest of Fair Play and the Rules of the game, urging the youths to maintain discipline and respect for a peaceful and successful championship.
The Deputy Chairman of Brikama Area Council and Councilor of Somita Ward, Sunkarr Badgie, who took the kick off, expressed similar sentiments noting that President Jammeh wants a united youth in order to achieve his vision for the future development of the country.
