Gunjur Lodge Inaugurated

The Gunjur Project, a UK based organisation promoting education and students’ fraternity, in partnership with other charitable organisations, on 21 April 2007 inaugurated the Gunjur Project Lodge in Gunjur.

The Project undertook the inauguration in collaboration with Youth in Need (Gambia), also a UK based charity, and Nyodema Yiriwa Kaffo, a Gambian based organisation.

The occasion also coincided with the1st anniversary of the Gunjur Project. According to Jo Austin-Preece, Director of Gunjur Project, her organisation facilitates exchanged opportunities and experiences between youths from The Gambia and the rest of the world as well as provides volunteering opportunities for young people.

For her part, Debi Wittaker, the country representative of Youth in Need Gambia, said her organisation work with young people in the UK to raise awareness of the living condition and the cultural differences between young people in The Gambia and those in the UK.

She said the awareness campaign enables young people in the UK to involve in projects to raise money and gather resources to facilitate the progress of young people in The Gambia. She said they have been conducting cultural visits to The Gambia as well as supporting projects and organisations like Nyodema Yiriwa Kaffo, who are their agents, by giving them funds for sponsorship of children and young people in school.

Mr Modou Lamin Manjang, the Secretary General of Nyodema Yiriwa Kaffo, highlighted some of the achievements of his organisation, saying that the organisation is presently sponsoring thirteen students as well as supporting other projects.
