Mauritanian President Visits Gunjur Ice Plant

As part of his two-day trip to The Gambia the Mauritanian President Mr Sidi Mohamed Ould Sheikh Abdalahi visited the Gunjur ice plant.

He was accompanied by the Vice President her Excellency Madam Ajaratu Isatou Njie Saidy.

Speaking to journalists during the visit the Governor of Western region, Mr. Abdou F.M. Badjie, commended President Jammeh for setting up development projects in his region.

He revealed that the ice plant is contributing immensely to the socio-economic development of The Gambia.

For his part, the Director of the Fisheries Department, Adiatou Njie, said that it was officially inaugurated in 2003 by the Government and was funded by the Government of Japan to the tune of D7 Million.
 
He revealed that the plan is also to provide a storage facility, a cold room and also export fish products to Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra-Leone, Europe and America.

Speaking earlier, the Chief of Kombo South, Sheriff Ajeh Janneh, expressed appreciation to the Government for providing job opportunities to Gambian young people. He also appealed to the Government to help the people of Gunjur to gain access to quality drinking water and electricity.
