4H-The Gambia, a non- profitable organisation with sole aim ‘to help improve the condition of the rural youths in the country’ through its local executive committee members in The Gambia, recently converged at Jamally Ngayado village in Central River Region to discussed and highlighted the significant role 4H plays in developing the rural areas in the Gambia.

In his opening remarks, Alpha Omar Bah, Chairman of the Regional Committee said that, collaboration is key to achieving success. He posited that 4H is very much committed to the training and educating the youths of The Gambia in different skills like sheep fattening, animal husbandry, gardening, batik, bread-making among others.

He added that, those groups and individuals that embark on gardening, after their harvest, will use some part of the money to pay the school fees of their children. “The loans given to us by 4H are a moral boost to our living as a good number of the members are now business men and women” he said.

Mr Bah however, expressed delight and appreciation to 4H-The Gambia for the numerous benefits especially in the rural Gambia, adding that since the inception of the organisation, great number of people are generating income and food for themselves.

Ebrima Bah, 4H Regional Secretary, hailed the efforts of 4H-The Gambia. He added that, 4H has always been helpful to the rural youths especially in the women folk. He further stated that, 4H is committed to the promotion of a viable and vibrant civil society that plays an effective and sustainable role in the development of the rural youths through constant dialogue.

Mr Bah then advised the members to be united and work hard in order to attract more benefits from 4H.

For his part, Musa Samura, Councillor of Banni Ward, also one of the founders of 4H-The Gambia, expressed appreciation to the personnel of the 4H-The Gambia for their support to alleviate poverty in the rural communities. He added that, the organisation also helped to discouraged rural urban migration by engaging youths in something tangible, so that the young people can stay in their Villages to help their parents to improved their living standard

Other speakers at the ceremony included Saikou Kijera, Mawdo Kanyi and the occasion was chaired by Banna Susso 4H Field Assistant.
