Jambanjelly Inaugurates New Classrooms, Offices, Toilets

In what could be described as a landmark and unprecedented development, Jambanjelly Basic Cycle School yesterday inaugurated a three-classroom block, two offices, ten toilets, a library and a staff quarters at a groundbreaking ceremony held at school grounds.

Speaking on the occasion, Cherno Sowe, a representative of the chief of Kombo South, applauded the sponsors of the project, a Dutch couple, Christine and Harry, for the humanitarian gesture. He said that their support and contribution would go a long way in complementing government’s efforts in bringing quality education to the living rooms of Gambians and non-Gambians alike.  He went on to thank the elders of Kombo South and the President of the Republic for their support in the realization of the project.

Madi Jatta, a representative of the Secretary of State for Education said his ministry is cognizant of the fact that education is the key to rapid development, adding that government will continue to work hand in glove with relevant stakeholders to boost the education sector so that the much-hyped education for all initiative by 2015 can be actualized .He also paid a glowing tribute to the Netherlands sponsors for lending a hand of support to the people of Jambanjelly.

Deputizing for the Governor of Western Region, Hon. Paul Mendy, thanked the sponsors for what he called their great work in generously dedicating their wallets and time towards the realization of this ambitious and noble dream. 

He also thanked the principal and the teaching staffs of Jambanjelly Basic Cycle for their brilliant job, urging them to keep up the momentum.

For their part, the sole sponsors of the project, Christine and Harry expressed happiness for what they described as a dream comes true, noting that the project will go a long way in serving the community of Jambanjelly and its environs.

In his speech at the occasion, the principal of the school, Ebrima E. F Badjie said that they are more than grateful to the Dutch couple for sponsoring the project.  

The occasion, attended by a plethora of dignitaries was celebrated in grand style with Kayong Kalorn cultural group on stage performing the guests.
