A two-day training workshop on Reproductive Health, Sexual Transmitted Diseases recently concluded at Janjangbureh Upper Basic School, in Central River Region.
The training was organised by Novoscotia Gambia Association (NSGA) and funded by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), aimed at capacitising Peer Health Education in schools.
In his welcoming remarks, the acting Principal of Janjangbureh Upper Basic School, Lamin Camara, thanked NSGA for choosing his School among the lot, and urged the participants to participate fully in the training session. He avised the students to always maintain a high sense of maturity and discipline.
The Regional Co-ordinator for NSGA and Peer Health Education, Mr Abubacarr Sisawo, said his association is implementing community health improvement project, through youths leadership development. According to him, twenty Senior and Upper Basic Schools were identified in CRR. He then expounded on the importance of the training as, according to him, young people should be well-equipped on Reproductive Health and the dangers posed by STI’s, such as HIV/Aids, well before they reach puberty age.
Mr Nuru Sey, Programme Co-ordinator of the Peer Health Educators, said their motto is to‘learn and teach others’, adding that as ambassadors of NSGA they are expected to be role models in school and in the communities in which they live .
Mr Ousman Sanyang, a teacher at the school said they have a plan in place to meet the communities, aimed at proper information dissemination.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Momodou B Sowe, a student of the school.
