Thursday, February 07, 2008
Residents in various towns and villages in Central River Region (CRR), including the Administrative Headquarters of Janjangbureh, last Saturday embarked on a mass ‘set-settal’ excercise in their respective villages.

The aim of the ‘set-settal’ exercise was not only meant to respond to President Jammeh’s call but also to improve environmental sanitation.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Momodou Katim Touray, Deputy Governor of CRR, thanked all those who participated in the exercise, describing it as a positive response to the call made by President Jammeh for the improvement of environmental sanitation through the monthly ‘set-settal’ activities. He stressed that the significance of this monthly cleansing exercise is not only to reduce the emergence of diseases but it also reduces the high incident rate of morbidity and mortality in the country.

Bakary Jam Jawo, Chief of Janjangbureh, applauded the CRR residents for the large turn out in cleaning the environment especially during the ‘set-settal’ exercise. He called for active participation of the people to clean their environment, noting that cleanliness is part of health care and is one of government’s primary objective in reducing malaria infection and the emergence of other diseases.

Similar exercise was held at Wassu, Bansang and Brikamaba.
