Bronsgrove High School in the United Kingdom (UK) recently completed a successful 11-day exchange visit to Armitage Senior School in Janjanbureh in CRR. Bronsgrove School forged very strong links with Armitage School back in 1987. Since then there have been many exchanges involving staff and students. The man who pioneered the link is Mike Carrick. Mike is a former head of physics at North Bronsgrove High School.
At a ceremony to welcome the group the principal of the school, Ebrima Joof, commended North Bronsgrove for their laudable assistance to Armitage Senior School. He said that since the inception of the link Armitage has benefited greatly.
He noted that their British counterparts have built and equipped the library and rehabilitated the septic tanks.
Mr. Joof further reiterated that the assistance is not only related to construction but also the provision of learning materials. The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Kauding Tambedou, said Armitage Senior School is one of the oldest in the country. He said the help being given to Armitage is improving the quality of education. He also thanked the staff for their hard work and dedication.
Mike Hendley, a teacher from Bronsgrove, highlighted the history of the link which, he revealed, had started as a pen-friend link. This link led some students to come and visit. Through this many friendships have been built up. The event was marked by a cultural ceremony.
