Body fitness is another important aspect of the physical wellbeing of an individual. It is a good source of a healthy body and mind and with little chances of falling sick always. Recently, The Gambia has witnessed the establishment of fitness centres geared towards providing physical training facilities in the country.
Among the latest is the Roots Fitness Centre situated at Kairaba Avenue, which has attracted a greater number of members.
John Gomez, Director of the centre, said the centre is always ready in providing quality training to Gambians and non Gambians.
The centre which was initiated in 2007 by British Jamaican Mr Idendia Doe with a view to providing exercise and fitness faculties to Gambian and non Gambian youths, attracts 40 to 60 people on daily basis.
“The centre employed over 50 to 70 young people who are also doing their training with the centre, and 30 percent of them are female while 70 percent are male,” the Roots boss explained.
According to John, part of the training facilities and other vital training provided by the centre, include gym bikes and other training equipment.
Commenting on the plans and aspirations of the centre he revealed that they are currently working on the expansion of the site of the centre, which he said would greatly aid them in the realization of their dreams and aspirations.
“We want to open a mini market, snooker table, billiards, table football, and other leisure games,” he pointed out.
With these planned developments, the Roots Fitness Centre could become a world class fitness centre, and a source of great pride for the Country.
