The Gambia Teachers’ Union (GTU) in collaboration with ActionAid International-The Gambia on Friday joined the rest of the globe to commemorate World Teachers’ Day.

The commemoration took the form of a march pass from Africell Head Office on Kairaba Avenue to GTMI in Kanifing and the theme for this year’s commemoration was Better Working Conditions for Teachers Means Better Learning Conditions for Learners.

Speaking on the occasion, the President of GTU, Mr. Omar Ndow, said the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity for showcasing the plight of teachers as well as to solicit undivided support from students, teachers, parents, Government and the greater public.

According to GTU boss, teachers are sober and silent nation builders and that supporting them is a moral responsibility.

For his part, Mr. Dawda Faye, a representative of Catholic Education Secretariat, said quality teachers for quality education, with specific emphasis on better working conditions for teachers, means better learning conditions.
